Art

Our Art Studio is an exciting place for children to be in. Led by our fully qualified Art Teacher this really is where our children have the opportunity to EXPLORE | DISCOVER | CREATE and LEARN Our own Art curriculum offers endless opportunities to learn about different artists and to experiment with different techniques such as object manipulation, collage, painting, drawing, sculpture and weaving to name but a few. Art supports development of the whole child and involves all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

Activities involving light and colour support mathematical and early science development whilst through most art activities children will be developing fine motor control and hand eye co-ordination skills which will support mark making and writing ultimately. Visual arts engage children in kinaesthetic, visual, spatial, logical and emotional activities. At the Winchmore Hill Preschool the works of Mondrian are used to explore geometry and mathematical shapes. We use Fiippo Lippi to explore perspective and spatial placement. The works of Picasso and Durer help us to look at our emotions and feelings, and how we see ourselves in a mirror, how is a face arranged, and what happens if you put your nose on the side of your face?

Our annual art exhibition includes works by all of our children highlighting their talents and abilities. Works of art are sold to our families with the proceeds being donated to a children’s charity.
